MY BLOG:

August 11th, 2015

What's up everybody, this is my loooonnnggg overdue return to the blog world...my last entry was January of 2015 which I guess makes me a horrible blogger, Lol!

It's been an extremely busy time and a lot has changed since January. We had an excellent finish to the season at American where we overcame a ton of injuries and adversity to make a run to the Patriot League Championship game where we fell just short on Lafayette's home floor 65-63. As the #6 Seed we had to go on the road to beat #3 Lehigh and #2 Colgate to reach the Championship game and I was really proud of how strong our group was mentally and of the courage and heart these guys showed all year and during that amazing run.

After 2 years at American and 5 years in the U.S. as an NCAA coach, I was lucky enough to be hired as the new head coach at UQAM (University of Quebec at Montreal) on May 4th, 2015 (great article by North Pole Hoops). I learned a great deal from my time at American and am extremely proud of everything we accomplished there over 2 years. The lessons I learned and relationships I developed during my time in the U.S. are priceless and I am sincerely thankful to all the coaching staffs and players that I had the opportunity to work with.

The transition to UQAM and to Montreal has been really exciting and I am very blessed to have the opportunity to develop my own program. I have learned a great deal already in a short amount of time, and being a head coach is a challenge and opportunity that I am very thankful for. I'm extremely excited about the recruits we have added since May that will be a huge part of our program, really like the returning players that we have coming back, and feel like my inaugural coaching staff at UQAM is a homerun as well! The players have been very receptive to the changes happening in our program, and everyone is very excited about the new direction of Citadins Basketball!

Yesterday I got the opportunity to coach the Montreal All-Star team we assembled to take on Valparaiso, the defending Horizon League Champions and a team projected to win their league again and make the NCAA Tournament. It was an excellent experience and it was an honor to coach against Bryce Drew and his staff who I really respect. Also, to get to coach some of Montreal's best players was a huge honor and learned a great deal coaching in such a high level game with a number of Pros like Kris Joseph (Syracuse/Boston Celtics), Ricky Volcy, Djim Bandoumel (Spain), Kevin Loiselle (NBL Canada) etc.

The season is already just around the corner and I'm definitely very excited to get the new era of UQAM Citadins Basketball underway!! Coming to you from Montreal, excited and thankful...GO CITADINS!!
