MY BLOG:

December 8th, 2015

My last blog entry was back in August, so definitely overdue for an update. I'm writing today as we get ready for another epic journey across the ocean, this time we are heading to Doha, Qatar for the FIBA 3x3 All-Stars!!

I haven't done a blog update for a while, so let me backtrack and get you caught up. Back in October, our team had the opportunity to fly to Xiamen, China to compete in the first ever FISU World University 3x3 Championships. What an unbelievable experience it was from a cultural perspective, and a basketball perspective. Our team consisted of 4 members of our UQAM team (Kewyn Blain, Greishe Clerjuste, Davidson Joseph, and Rudolphe Joly), and after showing tremendous growth game to game and possession by possession and posting victories over teams from Belgium, China, Russia, and France, our team WON the Championship!! Our team went 5-1 in the tournament and part of the reward was qualifying for the prestigious FIBA 3x3 All-Stars Tournament in Qatar which will only include the Top 6 teams in the world and includes $120,000 in prize money!!

We've been very lucky to have these types of opportunities, and it's been an exciting way to start my tenure here at UQAM. As far as our full UQAM team goes, little by little our team is growing and learning what it takes to win, and the culture of disipline and excellence is coming together slowly. We had an up & down non-conference schedule, and I think overall it would be characterized by 9 new players and a new coaching staff trying to find our identity, learning how to prepare, compete, and do what it takes to win games. There were signs of progress as well as times where we took steps back, but I would say that each day was an excellent chance to learn and grow.

Our RSEQ conference record right now is 2-2 (Wins vs Laval and Bishops, Losses vs McGill and Concordia) with our best basketball ahead of us. We now have a break from games for exams (other than a quick trip to Qatar), and will spend the month of December improving and getting ready for what will definitely be an extremely competitive RSEQ league schedule! Our preparation will include a game here at UQAM on December 19th vs Algonquin College and a trip to the Rod Shovelor Tournament in Halifax hosted by Dalhousie University. The Shovelor was always one of my favorite tournaments as a player, and coincidentally we open the tournament vs my alma mater, St. Mary's University...coached by my former teammate, Jonah Taussig.

On a personal note, very much looking forward to celebrating my son Isaac's 6th Birthday this week...unbelievable how fast time flies and how fast kids grow!

Here is a photo recap of our trip to Xiamen, China (below)...Happy Holidays Everybody and GO UQAM!!
