MY BLOG:

January 22nd, 2014

Coming to you LIVE with a Game Day blog from beautiful Washington, DC on a chilly day...great day to be inside and check out a matchup between the last two unbeaten teams in the Patriot League! Big game today vs Boston University who were picked 1st in the pre-season by many publications and our league's coaches and have been playing really well. Most of you know that I was at University of Maine for the previous 2 years, where we battled BU in our league twice a year...so definitely know the Terriers well and know how dangerous and talented they are.

It's been a busy and successful stretch since my last blog and we have now won 7 games in a row and are 6-0 in the Patriot League. This week John Schoof was named Patriot League player of the week, and it's been great to have some positive PR from the media over the last 2 weeks that you can check out on my In the Media page!

Our team is playing really well right now on both ends and is a very unselfish and hard working group. We currently rank in the Top 40 in the NCAA in 3 key categories ranking 15th in opponent points per game holding teams to 60.4ppg, we are 9th in the country in field goal % at .493 on the offensive side, and we are 39th in the NCAA with 15.4 assists per game.

We will need to play our best game of the season tonight at 7:30pm in Bender Arena to knock off Boston University...come out and check out the game if you're in the area, should be a great one...GO EAGLES!!

Brand new year...unbelievable 2014 is here already! Still have to get used to writing the new year, 2013 absolutely flew by. I just noticed a lot of people checked out my site on New Year's Eve so I apologize that I didn't do the traditional 2013 year in review, but that probably gets overdone anyways.

It's been just over a month since my last Blog entry, and it has been an extremely busy time. Our schedule thus far has been a split of 10 road games and only 3 home games, so we have spent our fair share of time away from home. The holidays were a great opportunity to re-charge and our team has really responded over the last week with 2 very good road wins to start off our Patriot League schedule. Last Thursday we travelled to defending Patriot League Champions Bucknell and won 67-57 and then followed that up by going to Holy Cross on Sunday and winning 69-54.

It's the first time in AU history that we've started the conference season with 2 road wins and the first 2-0 start since 2008-09 (when AU won 2nd of Back-to-back Patriot League Championships). Our team has been playing really well on both ends of the floor defending and rebounding as a unit, and doing a great job running our offense and being unselfish. One of the keys to our solid play has been Tony Wroblicky who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week this week! Tony averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 blocks and 2.5 steals last week while making 14-of-22 shots (63.6%) from the field.

It's definitely a very balanced team effort that's led to our solid start though, so although it's excellent that Tony's being recognized, we have a very unselfish and balanced group that is playing well right now. All 5 of our starters are averaging in double figures (between 10.5-12.5ppg), and we've had great contributions off the bench...truly a team effort on both ends of the floor in everything we do.

On a personal note, it was great to have a couple of days off for Christmas and had a special visit from my brother Quddus, and his girlfriend Alexis. Family time is so precious, and it was awesome to celebrate with them, my wife Toni, and my son Isaac who just turned 4 last month.

Also on a side note, want to send out a big congrats to my guy Dimitry Akanda-Coronel who was named America East Player of the Week this week for the 2nd time in a row! He averaged 19 pts & 8 rbs this week and has been having an excellent Sophomore year with the Black Bears.

Tonight we finally have a home game as we face off against new Patriot League member the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds previously of the MAAC. They are a talented and athletic team so we will need to continue our solid defensive effort, and unselfish play on the offensive end. Let's keep it rolling in 2014...Happy New Year everybody & GO EAGLES!! (You can watch the game LIVE on the Patriot League streaming site here)
