MY BLOG:

May 21st, 2012

After a beautiful spring weekend here in Maine, I decided to write a blog entry today about thankfulness. I had a great weekend with my phenomenal wife & son including a trip to Cadillac Mountain, the 1,530 ft breathtaking mountain at Acadia National Park in Bar Habor, ME.

During the weekend, it gave me an opportunity to really appreciate and give thanks for all the blessings in my life. One of those blessings is the tremendous support I have received from friends and colleagues for my new site. After 2 weeks, there have been over 750 visitors to NatePhilippe.com!

Tomorrow I'll be flying out to Los Angeles to visit my brother Quddus, who's new show "Duets" is premiering this Thursday on ABC! I 'm very thankful that I will get to celebrate with him, and both my parents who are also making the trip.

So thankful for so many blessings; health, family, friends, and life! Thank you to everybody for the support and I hope you all have an excellent week!

Today I got an e-mail about a memorial built for Dr James Naismith (left) built in his hometown of Almonte, Ontario. It reminded me of the fact that this is a part of his background most people don't know about, or don't talk about. The truth is, James Naismith was born in Canada, went to school in Almonte until college, then attended McGill University in Montreal. Only after his college studies, at the age of 29yrs old, did he decide to move to Sprinfield, MA where he invented Basketball in 1891.

This isn't a popular topic for some reason, and there is no question that the U.S. has embraced the game and taken it to the next level like no other country on the planet (which is why I'm here). That still doesn't change the fact that James Naismith was Canadian born & raised, and Canada should take great pride in that!

Absolutely HUGE news today for everyone associated with basketball in Canada as Steve Nash has been named the GM and Rowan Barrett has been promoted to Assistant GM of Canada Basketball. Definitely a historic day, and one that I believe will mark a very positive new direction for our National program.

Steve Nash of course needs no introduction as the most accomplished player ever to come out of Canada. His accomplishments with the National team, at Santa Clara, and in the NBA are well documented as is his character and heart off the floor. He has been the ultimate embassador for Canadian Basketball, and has given hope to so many young players that have come after him and idolize him.

Rowan Barrett is also a class act, extremely passionate about basketball in our country, and brings a decorated background and tremedous accolades to the table as well.

Simply put, this is a homerun for Canada Basketball, and ushers in an exciting new era that will ultimately put our National program back on the map internationally!

Just wanted to take time out to say how proud and happy I am for my brother Quddus who just started filming his new show Duets last week on ABC. For those who don't know, my brother has put in his time in the entertainment industry and has had his share of ups & downs since he did the Much Music VJ search in Canada back in the day. Since that time, he has been a Host on MTV's Total Request Live (TRL), has been an A&R at MySpace Records, worked with Access Hollywood, directed videos, and every step of the way has been a very active philanthropist.

With Duets (premiering May 24th), he is back on National Television, doing what he loves most. I couldn't be happier for him or prouder of all he has accomplished. He is not only my brother, but also my best friend! Congratulations to my brother Quddus..much love my man!!

Today was the official launch of NatePhilippe.com and I am so thankful and overwhelmed at all the posivite support and feedback I've received from everybody! I've had good friends I haven't heard from in a while, family members, coaching colleagues, and current and former players all reach out, and it's been phenomenal!

Anytime you go out on a limb and try something new, no matter how confident you are in it, you always hope that your efforts will be well received. I am incredibly grateful for all the positive support I've received, and I'm so thankful that I have so many blessings in my life, most of all...all of you!

It's a very exciting day today as I put the finishing touches on www.NatePhilippe.com. Believe it or not, I just decided to create my own website yesterday after I came across a coaching friend's site and thought, wow what an unbelievable idea! This is my 2nd time designing a website...my 1st attempt was www.SoldByNate.ca, a site that was a great tool for me in the real estate world and was a major part of my business. In this case though, this is more of a labor of love.

I feel extremely blessed to get to do what I love for a living, and I hope I can continue to grow and develop as a coach as I continue my career. With the 2011-12 season now done, and the April recruiting period behind us, what better time than now to create this site and continue to learn and grow! This has been another tremendous learning experience and opportunity to learn new things in the technological world.
